Titans: Beast World Tour – Star City #1 is a thrilling and action-packed anthology that features the Arrow family and their allies in a battle against the Beast Boy spores that have infected the city. Written by Joshua Williamson, Ryan Parrott, and Robert Venditti, with art by Jamal Campbell, Roger Cruz, and Ro Stein, this issue showcases the skills and personalities of the archers and the birds, as well as some unexpected guests.
The issue consists of four stories, each focusing on a different set of characters and a different aspect of the crisis. The first story, “Like Father…”, by Williamson and Campbell, follows Oliver Queen and Connor Hawke as they investigate a mysterious lab that is experimenting with the spores. They encounter some familiar foes and face a moral dilemma that tests their bond as father and son. The second story, “Birds of a Feather”, by Parrott and Cruz, stars Black Canary and Red Canary, the latter being a young hero who idolizes the former. When Black Canary is infected by the spores, Red Canary has to step up and save her, as well as the civilians in danger. The third story, “The Jungle Society of America”, by Venditti and Guidry, reunites Red Arrow, Huntress, and Stargirl, who have to fight off the spores and the corrupted members of the Justice Society of America. The fourth story, “Like Son”, by Stein and Brandt, continues the first story from Connor’s perspective, as he tries to find a peaceful solution to the conflict and reconcile with his father.
The issue is a fun and fast-paced read, with a lot of humor and heart. The writers capture the voices and the relationships of the characters well, and the artists deliver stunning visuals that match the tone and the style of the stories. The issue also ties in nicely with the main Titans series and the larger Beast World event, while also being accessible and enjoyable as a standalone. This issue also features some cool and creative beasts, such as a giant octopus, a frog-like Green Lantern, and a dragon-like Hawkman.
