PREQUEL TO THE ALL-NEW ANIMATED SERIES! In Marvel Animation’s new series, we find Peter Parker still finding his footing on his journey to becoming the Spider-Man we all know and love! In this series, you can take the very first steps along with him as he discovers his powers, decides to become a hero, and even picks out his name and costume! Now Peter’s gotta survive an entire Freshman year as a newbie crime-fighting vigilante… and if you think you know how this story goes, you are in for a surprise!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1. We’ve seen Peter Parker’s origin retold plenty of times, but this issue manages to keep things fresh while still feeling familiar. Written by Christos Gage with art by Eric Gapstur, it’s a prequel to Marvel Animation’s upcoming series, giving us a peek at Peter’s early days figuring out how to be Spider-Man.

The story hits the usual beats—discovering powers, choosing the name, crafting the suit—but there are enough tweaks and surprises to keep longtime fans interested. What stood out to me most was how grounded Peter feels. He’s awkward, unsure, and still learning—basically the Peter we’ve always loved, but with a slightly modern spin.

Gapstur’s artwork fits the tone perfectly. It’s energetic, clean, and easy to follow, making this a great entry point for younger readers. The action scenes pop without being overwhelming, and Peter’s expressions really sell his internal struggles.

While the issue didn’t completely blow me away, it’s a solid read and sets up what could be an exciting series. If you’re curious about the new show or just want a fresh take on Spidey’s beginning, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 is available now on our new comic book wall, and you can even add it to your weekly pull list to keep up with Peter’s journey from day one.
