“X-Factor #1” delivers a bold and exhilarating start, echoing the chaotic energy of classic team-up comics like John Ostrander’s “Suicide Squad” and Mike Allred’s “X-Force/X-Statix”. Set in the aftermath of Krakoa, this issue introduces a world where nations scramble to create their own mutant armies, but only America’s X-Factor is equipped with the star power and patriotism to lead the charge.

The story, penned by Mark Russell, dives headfirst into a new mutant arms race, with a team led by Angel, Havok, Frenzy, Feral, Pyro, and others. The premise is intriguing, and while the full team doesn’t come together until the next issue, the groundwork laid here promises a wild ride. There’s a certain rawness to the narrative, leaving plenty of room for the characters and their relationships to develop.

One standout aspect of this issue is the art. Bob Quinn’s work, paired with Jesus Aburtov’s colors, is a visual treat. The synergy between the two artists is undeniable, creating a dynamic and vibrant world that perfectly complements the story’s tone. Even if you’re not typically a fan of Quinn’s style, there’s a chance this issue might change your mind.

While “X-Factor #1” doesn’t fully utilize all its elements just yet, it’s clear that the potential is there. The mix of action, drama, and a hint of satire makes this series one to watch, especially for fans of stories that aren’t afraid to push boundaries. This issue sets the stage for what could be an explosive and unpredictable journey, and it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on as the series progresses.

“X-Factor #1” is available on our new comic book wall and can be added to your weekly pull list.
