THE LEGEND BEGINS ANEW IN THE ADAMANTIUM-TOUGH NEW ONGOING SERIES! There’s a killer in the woods — and as WOLVERINE’s attempt at piece is shattered, an OLD ENEMY will re-emerge as a NEW VILLAIN rises who will bring LOGAN to the brink of his berserker rage. But NIGHTCRAWLER knows his old friend is capable of doing what’s right, and before long, Logan will have to unleash his claws, push his healing factor to the limit and demonstrate he’s the best there is at what he does once and for all — nice be damned! The legendary WOLVERINE ongoing series kicks off anew with the superstar creative team of Saladin Ahmed (DAREDEVIL, MAGNIFICENT MS. MARVEL) and Martín Cóccolo (DEADPOOL, IMMORTAL THOR) beginning their epic journey with Logan! Collector’s Note: A key FIRST APPEARANCE and a major addition to the lore of Wolverine in this issue!
The claws are out again, and Logan is ready for action in Wolverine #1, a new chapter in the long history of one of Marvel’s most iconic characters. Written by Saladin Ahmed and brought to life by Martín Cóccolo’s dynamic art, this issue kicks off a fresh, hard-hitting Wolverine series that promises to take the character in exciting new directions.
The story wastes no time pulling readers into the wilderness, where Wolverine’s attempt at a peaceful existence is shattered by a looming threat. Old enemies resurface, and new villains emerge, forcing Logan to do what he does best—fight. But it’s not all about brute force; there’s a lot more to uncover as the mystery unfolds. Ahmed writes these characters with depth, giving them room to grow while keeping the action tense and engaging. Fans of the often-underrated Cyber will be thrilled to see him back in the spotlight, and his reintroduction hints at more surprises to come. If you’re familiar with X-Factor #81, Cyber’s return is sure to bring a wave of nostalgia.
One of the highlights here is the fantastic art by Martín Cóccolo. His work on the action sequences, especially in the wilderness setting, makes every fight feel visceral and raw. There’s something about the way he captures Wolverine’s rage and Cyber’s smug confidence that draws you deeper into the story. The art really stands out, and while the forest setting is great, it’s exciting to think about how Cóccolo might handle other environments as the series progresses.
This issue feels like a continuation of the strong momentum seen in recent X-Men books, even outpacing the Exceptional X-Men in terms of action. The story setup and character interactions are top-tier, and Ahmed’s writing has a flair that brings to mind Al Ewing’s work on Immortal Thor and X-Men Red. The new villain introduced here leaves plenty of questions, setting the stage for an intriguing arc that will no doubt push Wolverine to his limits.
If you’ve been hesitant about diving into another Wolverine series, this first issue is worth a look. Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo have laid the groundwork for something special, blending action, character depth, and a strong narrative that promises to build on Logan’s rich history while introducing exciting new elements. With fantastic art, an engaging story, and a strong creative team, Wolverine #1 kicks off a new era in style. It’s safe to say this is one of the strongest X-Men-related launches in a while, and I can’t wait to see where it leads.
Wolverine #1 is available on our new comic book wall and can be placed on your weekly pull list.
