Marvel Comics has released the highly anticipated second season of The X-cellent, written by Peter Milligan and with art by Mike Allred. The new season follows the iconic X-Statix superheroes and their journey to save the world from Zeitgeist, an original X-Statix team member who was believed to be dead but has come out of the shadows to take over the world via social media and a stolen spell from Dr. Strange’s Book of Vishanti.
The X-cellent #1 sees the return of fan-favorite characters such as Zeitgeist, Orphan, Dead Girl and U Go Girl and introduces, and reintroduces us to newer characters Hurt John, Mirror Girl and Uno.
The creative team of Allred and Milligan delivers an exciting and thought-provoking story that explores the dangers of social media and the power of celebrity. The plot is fast-paced and engaging, with plenty of action to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
The artwork by Allred is truly stunning, with bold colors and dynamic panel layouts that bring the characters and action to life. The designs of some of the new characters are particularly striking, with each one having a unique and memorable appearance in only a way that Mike Allred is able to do.
The X-Statix have always been a unique and unconventional team of heroes, and The X-cellent #1 continues that tradition. The characters are flawed and complex, making them relatable and compelling to follow. The inclusion of Dead Girl, a character who can communicate with the dead, adds an eerie and supernatural element to the story.
Overall, The X-cellent #1 is a fantastic start to the new season, or rather volume 2 as this issue is a continuation from The X-cellent series from 2022 which ended with issue five. The writing and artwork are top-notch, and the story is both timely and entertaining. Fans of the original X-Statix series and newcomers alike will find plenty to love in this exciting new adventure.
