Another late review due to hurricane Milton. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect with Sentinels #1. I’ve seen a lot of buzz around this new series by Alex Paknadel and Justin Mason, and honestly, my curiosity got the better of me. The idea of shifting the focus to a new generation of Sentinels, now powered by cutting-edge nanotech and tasked with protecting the uneasy peace between humans and mutants, sounded promising.
The first thing that grabbed me was the new angle. Instead of the usual giant robots programmed to wipe out mutants, we now follow actual people on this Sentinel task force. Some of them even have powers, and their mission is clear: track down bad mutants like Omega Red. This shift away from hunting “good” mutants is refreshing. That story’s been done to death, and it’s nice to see the narrative focus on a more morally gray area.
I also liked the inclusion of a mutant team member who can predict future events. It adds an extra layer of tension and intrigue to the hunt. It’s always cool when stories dig into the behind-the-scenes workings of groups we typically think of as villains. I’m hoping we get to see these soldiers develop more over time. There’s a lot of potential for depth here.
What I wasn’t prepared for, though, was how much this series expands the X-Men universe. It opens up so many possibilities for future stories, and I’m genuinely interested to see where they take this concept.
Sentinels #1 is available on our new comic book wall and can be placed on your weekly pull list.
