*Spoilers..
Everyone’s favorite hard-travelin’ heroes are back and brought to you through the iconic lens of World’s Finest! In the not-too-distant past, Oliver Queen and Hal Jordan find themselves at a crossroads… and only teaming up together once more will save them from the scope of the mysterious bounty hunter known in whispered tones throughout the underworld as Deathstroke the Terminator. Plus, writer Jeremy Adams returns to the world of the Flash to weave a twisted tale of Barry Allen on the road to crisis — it’s a World’s Finest adventure you cannot miss in this special, oversize one-shot spectacular!
There’s something special about revisiting old comic book dynamics that still hold up decades later, for me it feels like two old friends seeing each other again after many years. Green Lantern/Green Arrow: World’s Finest Special #1 does exactly that, giving us a throwback adventure that feels like coming home to a familiar, slightly chaotic family reunion.
The story kicks off with Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) and Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) at a personal and professional crossroads. Their uneasy but reliable partnership is put to the test when they face off against Deathstroke the Terminator — a dangerous figure whispered about in the criminal underworld. This tale serves as a clever setup for Deathstroke’s original introduction, adding a fun historical twist.
Jeremy Adams’ writing captures the classic buddy-cop energy between Ollie and Hal. Their snarky banter, ideological clashes, and grudging respect are all on point. Adams clearly knows these characters and enjoys playing with their dynamic. The narrative doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel — it’s a straightforward, action-packed ride that feels like a love letter to the duo’s iconic past.
Lucas Meyer’s art elevates the whole experience. His sharp lines and dynamic layouts give the story the perfect retro-modern vibe. Every panel feels energetic, and Dan Mora’s cover art is simply striking. The design of Deathstroke’s grey suit is a standout, making me hope we’ll see more of it in future comics.
The second story teams Hal up with Barry Allen (The Flash) in a fast-paced, dimension-hopping escapade. While this backup tale is brief, it’s still a fun, punchy adventure that highlights the trust and friendship between these two classic Justice Leaguers. Again, the art shines with fluid motion and electric energy.
If there’s one minor gripe, it’s that both stories wrap up a little too quickly, leaving you wanting just a bit more depth or stakes. But honestly, that’s not really the point of this special. It’s about revisiting an era when superhero comics embraced simplicity and character-driven storytelling.
The real charm here is seeing Hal and Ollie back in action, bickering like old friends and saving the day despite themselves. It’s still funny to think that someone in the ’70s probably pitched this team-up by saying, “They’re both green — let’s pair them up!” and somehow struck gold.
Jeremy Adams’ affection for these characters comes through on every page. This special might not redefine the genre, but it delivers exactly what longtime fans crave: good old-fashioned superhero fun.
