NEW POWERS, NEW MISSION… THE KING IS BACK, BABY! In the wake of Absolute Power, Arthur Curry’s powers have evolved to powerful new heights, and this is one king ready to use them to kick some serious butt. Mammoth water-construct Kaijus have emerged from each of the seven seas, and only Aquaman’s water-warping abilities can stop them — but not if they kill the good king in the process! Enter Dagon, Arthur’s guide on the quest to unlock the secrets of the “blue.” But what deadly secret awaits Arthur on his journey? It’s an all-new era for Aquaman by acclaimed creators Jeremy Adams (The Flash, Green Lantern) and John Timms (Action Comics) that will leave you cheering!

Aquaman #1 has set the stage for an exciting new chapter in Arthur Curry’s life. With stunning artwork by John Timms and a gripping narrative from Jeremy Adams, this issue introduces a powerful evolution in Aquaman’s abilities and a thrilling quest to uncover the mysteries of the “blue.”

Right from the get-go, I was pulled into Arthur’s world, which has been shaken by the emergence of massive water-construct Kaijus threatening the seven seas. The dynamic between Arthur and his new guide, Dagon, adds a layer of intrigue as they navigate these dangers. What really struck me was the shift in Mera’s role and powers, adding weight to Aquaman’s solo journey. It’s a bold move that sets a distinct tone for this series.

The artwork is absolutely fantastic; John Timms brings every scene to life with a style that captures both the grandeur of the underwater world and the intensity of the battles. Jeremy Adams’ writing complements this beautifully, offering a story that’s fast-paced and full of promise, though I wish it had taken a bit more time to let some of the heavier moments land. Atlantis is destroyed, Arthur’s family is gone, and yet we quickly move on to the next setting. It feels like there’s so much happening that we don’t get a chance to fully absorb the gravity of it all.

Despite this, Aquaman #1 is a strong start to what looks like a pivotal series in DC’s continuity. It’s clear that big things are on the horizon, and I’m eager to see how Arthur rises to these new challenges. If you’re into epic underwater adventures with a touch of mystery and plenty of action, this is definitely worth checking out.
